Visnes, © Camilla Vandvik

Visnes Outdoor Recreational Amenity is an unusual blend of coastal landscape, forests more typical of Eastern Norway, and a copper mine with an exciting history. The area is centred on the old mining industry and is full of interesting things to do. This is a family-friendly environment suitable for children and accessible for wheelchair users.

When visiting Visnes, you should not miss the opportunity to go back in time and catch a glimpse of an exciting chapter in Norway's industrial history. In its heyday in the 1800s, Vignes Copper Mine was one of the largest copper mines in Europe.

Administered by Recreation Association West (Friluftsrådet Vest). No marked tracks.

Many excellent gravel walking tracks in the centre of the area. These go over to trails around the outer perimeter

From Haugesund:
Approx. 13 km. Take highway RV-47 across Karmsund Bridge to the roundabout at Avaldsnes (the first roundabout after the bridge). Turn right at the roundabout and continue along this road for approximately 4 km. The road ends when you reach the mine complex.
